idaho

  1. Idaho is famous for its potatoes, but it is actually "the Gem State”, NOT the potato state. Because of the rugged forested mountains that make up most of the interior, most cities and towns are located in the flatter High Mountain Desert southern area of the state. The Snake River runs through the bottom section of the state until turns northward and joins with the Columbia River, which in turn empties into the Pacific Ocean. Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Canada share its borders. Home of Hells Canyon, the deepest canyon in the US, (the Grand Canyon is wider, and more visually spectacular, but Hells Canyon is deeper and more treacherous) Most recreation is outdoors orientated: skiing, hiking, swimming, hunting, backpacking, etc. Idaho is home to the Old time Fiddlers Contest held in Weiser every June. Sun Valley is a Ski Resort that boasts a high number of famous celebrities as its residents. Boise is the Capital. Most native Idahoans are very friendly to visitors, but have mixed feelings about the recent popularity the state has enjoyed and the subsequent ‘invasion’ of people moving into the state. Where even as recently as 15 years ago, it was safe to leave your doors unlocked and crime was low, now it is fast becoming the same as anywhere else, and crime, drugs, and gangs are an issue.
