it is a distortion of sense such as visual sense in which the brain fails to recognize a visual perception of something that is not there. In other words, illusion blurs the line between reality and falseness. Common example of such phenomenon is optical illusions. Magicians are known to distort people's sense with magic tricks such as making something appear out of no where. The brain just see the final product of a magic trick but fails to recognize the hidden process of that trick.
an illusion is like a pleasant dream - a place we would love to be, something we would like to do, something we would like to own - that just might come true. it is something we nurture, because it is pleasant to dwell on one's illusion. if we nurture an illusion, it stays in the mind and gets stronger - and the stronger it gets the closer it comes to being a reality. most illusions get shattered pretty quick.
