reason why trial by jury was invented which, underneath it all, is the civilized equivalent of a people's court. if a people's court accuses, judges, sentences and executues that sentence all in one act and all by the same people the basic guarantees that are fundmanetal to a system of justice - separation of acusation and judgement - do not exist. trial by jury, or trial by the people, at least ensures a modicum of order and serenity.
